What is WORKFREE?

WORKFREE (workfr.ee) is a crowd-sourced directory and rating platform for remote-work-friendly venues — coffee shops, libraries, coworking spaces, restaurants, and anywhere else you can set up a laptop and get something done.

Unlike general review sites, WORKFREE focuses entirely on the things that matter to remote workers: WiFi reliability, power outlet availability, noise level, whether you can take a call, and how welcoming the staff are to people who want to stay and work.

Why we built it

Remote workers spend hours every week trying to figure out where they can actually work. Yelp tells you whether the coffee is good. Google Maps tells you the hours. Neither tells you whether the WiFi drops every 20 minutes, or whether you'll get glared at for nursing a latte for two hours while on a deadline.

WORKFREE fills that gap. Every rating is submitted by someone who has actually worked from the venue — not just visited as a customer.

How ratings work

Venues are rated across up to five dimensions, each on a 1–5 scale:

• WiFi — Reliability and speed of the connection
• Noise Level — How quiet and focused the environment is
• Power Outlets — How easy it is to find a seat with an outlet nearby
• Staff — How welcoming staff are to remote workers staying for extended periods
• Calls — Whether voice or video calls are practical

Raters only score the dimensions they actually experienced — so if you didn't need to make a call, you don't have to rate that. This keeps the scores honest.

An overall score is calculated automatically from your attribute scores, weighted by how much each dimension typically matters. WiFi weighs more than call-friendliness because it's relevant to almost every remote worker.

Aggregate scores are only shown once a venue has at least three ratings, to prevent individual outliers from dominating.

WORKFREE is a product of Hyperion Works, a software company that builds tools for independent professionals and small businesses.

It co-promotes with Atlas, our business management platform for independent professionals. Remote workers who use Atlas to run their business need to know where they can work — WORKFREE helps them find those places.

Terms of Service

WORKFREE is provided as-is for informational purposes. By submitting ratings or reviews, you affirm that your submission is based on genuine personal experience and is accurate to the best of your knowledge. False, malicious, or spam submissions may be removed at our discretion.

Venue data is sourced from Google Places and is subject to Google's terms of service. WORKFREE does not guarantee the accuracy of third-party data.

Privacy Policy

We collect the minimum information necessary to operate the platform: your email address (for account creation and authentication), your display name (shown on reviews), and the ratings and reviews you submit.

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We use standard web analytics to understand how the platform is used.
